Self Assessment checklist: What you'll need

1. Personal Information

  • Your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR)
  • National Insurance number
  • Details if you've had any changes in your address, name, or marital status
  • Your Government Gateway login, if you have one

2. Income Information

  • Employment income: P60, P45 or P11D from employers
  • Self-employment income: all invoices and receipts for the tax year (6 April to 5 April)
  • Partnership income: details from your partnership statement
  • Property income: rental statements, mortgage interest, repairs, insurance and agent fees
  • Investment income: bank interest, dividends, and other investment returns
  • Foreign income: details of any income earned overseas
  • Capital gains: records of asset sales, including shares or property

3. Expenses and Deductions

  • Office costs and supplies
  • Travel and mileage
  • Professional subscriptions
  • Accountancy fees
  • Pension contributions
  • Charitable donations (Gift Aid)

4. Other Information

  • Child Benefit details (if applicable)
  • Student Loan repayments
  • Any tax reliefs or allowances you're claiming

Key Deadlines

  • 31 October 2025 is the submission deadline if doing things by paper
  • 31 January 2026 is the online submission and payment deadline
